Ankle Arthroscopy: Procedure, Surgery & Recovery
Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves the use of a small camera called an arthroscope to examine and treat problems within the ankle joint. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia and is commonly used to diagnose and treat a variety of ankle conditions, including joint inflammation, bone spurs, cartilage injuries, and ligament tears. The ankle arthroscopy procedure typically begins with the surgeon making several small incisions around the ankle joint. These incisions are used to insert the arthroscope and other surgical instruments into the joint. The arthroscope allows the surgeon to visualize the inside of the ankle joint and identify any abnormalities that may be causing pain or other symptoms. Once the problem has been identified, the surgeon can use surgical instruments to treat the condition. This may involve removing damaged tissue or bone, repairing ligament tears or cartilage injuries, or smoothing out rough surfac
